Pretty stoked with yesterdays effort while fishing for Snapper in Jervis Bay out of our Feelfree Kayaks (Aust).
We got on the water at about 5pm and had a small window to try and get some fish before night closed in on us. It was looking like it was going to be quiet, as neither of us were catching anything, then with about 20 mins to go I hooked up and the reel started to scream and the kayak started to turn direction.
It took a while to start getting some line back and eveytime I thought I was going to get to see it, it shot off again pulling line at a rate of knots. After about 10mins, the fish came to the surface and that’s when I realised my little net just wasn’t going to be sufficient but thankfully professional net boy Wes was close by, so I grabbed it’s tail while Wes netted it’s head and we lifted it in, grabbed a few photos, got a quick weigh of 7.5kg/16.5lb then let him/her go for the next person to enjoy the same experience.
It came out of 8m of water and took a 5 inch BBQ Chicken Berkley FishingGulp on a 1/4 oz TT Lures Headlockz with 14lb leader, Samurai RodsReaction 6-12lb and SHIMANO Australia Fishing Stella 2500 spoiled with 20lb YGK OH Dragon.
Fish of a lifetime for the South Coast and one I won’t be forgetting quickly!
