St Georges Basin Flathead

Tough day on Friday. I hit the Basin with Rory from The Asset Apparel Company in the hope of finding some winter Bream. We zipped all over the waterway sounding and casting but couldn’t get them to bite. There was some Flathead by-catch in most locations, but not what we were after. Wes then joined me in the late morning as Rory had to get home. About 5 cast in, Wes came up tight on this 84cm Flathead which took a liking to the newBerkley Fishing 3″ Nemesis. Only running 3.3lb Fireline Exceed, he couldn’t put too much pressure on it and it took about 15mins to get the fish off the bottom.

We then headed south to meet up with Gavin from McCallums Tackleworldto see if we could find any Snapper in our usual location. Gav had been itching to try out some micro jigging for Snapper, so while he jigged, we cast Gulp. The fish were playing hard to catch here too, with all of us only landing 1 fish each, the best one going to me, which was around 2.5kg and took a 6″ Gulp Jerk Shad in Pink Shine.

Can’t wait for winter to be over and the fishing to improve! But here’s the video of Wes catching his Basin Flatty.
